We are Jan and Gerlie, proud owners of Auberge de la Chaloire in beautiful France
We are Jan and Gerlie Swinkels, proud owners of Auberge de la Chaloire in the heart of beautiful Burgundy.
After living for years in the Netherlands and Belgium, we opened our first B&B in Belgium in 2021. There, we had the pleasure of welcoming guests from all over the world for 3.5 years.
However, our dream was always to have our own cozy place in France. That dream became reality in September 2024, when we moved to La Petite-Verrière, just 5 km from our beloved holiday home in Cussy-en-Morvan.
With Auberge de la Chaloire, we want to create a warm and welcoming place where everyone can feel at home and enjoy the French way of life.
At the start of our motor-tour through France we stayed one night with Jan and Gerlie and it turned out to be one of the nicest nights of the holiday! What a cosy and beautifully decorated auberge this is! Delicious meals prepared by the hosts themselves and in the evening we enjoyed a chat with Jan outside on the terrace – this is how it should be. After a wonderful night’s sleep and an abundant breakfast we unfortunately had to say goodbye, but if we are ever in the area again we will certainly come back: absolutely recommended! Thank you Jan and Gerlie for all your care: keep it up!
After a change of ownership in September 2024 and the reopening in March 2025 after renovation, we discovered this inn during a stay in the area. We had an excellent night there. The welcome from this Dutch couple is extraordinary, making us feel immediately *at home*. The food is simple but very good and the terrace is very pleasant for an evening meal.
Today we enjoyed a lovely lunch on the terrace of Auberge de la Chaloire. The new owners have transformed the Auberge into an atmospheric and hospitable B&B where you can also have lunch. It is certainly worthwhile to stop by for a drink or a delicious ice-cream sundae! Jan and Gerlie create a friendly atmosphere with attention to detail. And all this with a beautiful view!
You are right in the middle of the Morvan, a beautiful regional nature park that is ideal for nature lovers. From the village you can follow numerous walking routes, from short trips to longer hikes along streams and viewpoints. Cycling enthusiasts can also indulge themselves – for example on the Itinérance Verte, a beautiful green route from Anost to Autun through forests and hills.
At only 15 km you will find the idyllic Lac des Settons, surrounded by pine trees. Here you can relax by the water, swim or take part in various water sports. A trip to Château-Chinon is also definitely worthwhile. There you can enjoy the panoramic view from the Calvaire and immerse yourself in local history, for example in the Espace François Mitterrand.
Yes, our B&B has fast Wi-Fi which is free to use.
Yes, smoking is allowed on the terrace. Inside the B&B it is prohibited.
Private parking is free. You can park at the B&B and no reservation is necessary.
